Planning for Dental Anesthesia

Thank you for choosing Thurm Dental Group to provide your dental care. If you will be receiving general anesthesia, please know that the our level of care meets or exceeds the national standards of care for ambulatory surgical centers.

  2. Inform the office team of any recent illness, change in medication, or change in medical history.
  3. Wear loose and comfortable clothing on the day of the appointment.
  4. Remove contact lenses prior to the appointment.
  5. Do not wear any makeup (not even eye makeup), perfume, earrings, or cologne on the day of the appointment.
  6. Brush your teeth vigorously before leaving for your appointment.
  7. Do not smoke the morning of your appointment.
  8. Use the restroom immediately before your appointment.

Post-Operative Instructions and Information

  1. The patient must be accompanied home by a responsible adult.
  2. The remainder of the day should be spent resting at home.
  3. Many of these drugs stay in your system for 24 hours after the procedure. The patient should not drive an automobile, operate any machinery (not even a stove), or make any important business decisions for 24 hours.
  4. The patient should not consume any alcoholic beverages or tranquilizers for 24 hours unless prescribed by Dr. Thurm.
  5. Report any unusual symptoms including dizziness or nausea to Dr. Thurm as soon as they occur.
  6. Some patients experience minor swelling of the lips from manipulation during the visit. If your lips are swollen, place ice on them for five (5) minutes, then remove for five minutes. Repeat as needed.
  7. Some patients may experience a sore throat. This comes from the dry packs we place in your mouth, as well as the medications we use. Use chloraseptic lozenges or spray with salt water rinses to alleviate any discomfort you have.

If you have any questions regarding your anesthetic or dental care, please call our office at (856) 335-1775.

Excellent dentist and staff. Seen on time. State of the art equipment and most importantly, correct and good treatment with a conservative approach. Dr. Thurm’s approach is to assess the situation, range of options, whether the treatment is urgent or can wait and proceed from there. Everybody in this facility is both professional and friendly. I wish all businesses were like this.

Dr. Thurm and staff are the most amazing people. Their support and expertise is above and beyond. I went in with a difficult problem and the reassurance and calmness of Dr. Thurm is just amazing. He makes a terrible procedure turn into an ordinary day. The kindness exhibited – not only from Dr. Thurm but his entire staff – is very much appreciated. I NEVER want him to retire. I know that i…

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be smiling, and genuinely happy about the way my teeth look today, I would have told you that you were crazy. I have kept my smile hidden for years, not wanting to show my teeth…ashamed of the way they look after years of neglect. I experience dental anxiety, to the point of putting off the care, for years. I knew this was not a good plan, but…

I have had an abnormal fear of the dentist all my life which led to sever gum disease and I was terrified of what I needed to have done. Dr. Thurm took his time to explain everything that had to be done and he treated me with such kindness and care it was wonderful. I had extractions done, scaling and filings under anesthesia so I did not have to hear or feel what he was doing. I woke up and Dr. T…

I have an absolutely devastating fear of dentists, and had it not been for excruciating tooth pain, I was content to not visit a dental office. My first visit, while in such pain, was probably the most gentle experience I’ve had with a dental office. The staff was definitely sympathetic to my fear, and instead of treating it dismissively or by treating me like a child, they truly made me fee…

Always a pleasure going to our favorite dentist! Most people dread the trip to the dentist but not my family. As a matter of fact, we travel from West Chester, PA to come to our appointments and will continue to do so until I am no longer able to drive. Any work our teeth have needed has always been a pleasant experience — so far, never a painful moment. Will always be grateful to my friend…
